BENEVOLENCE

final_benevolence
Benevolence addresses pressing issues such as inadequate nutrition, finances, and clothing that often prevent individuals from taking advantage of life-changing opportunities that can impact their welfare. As such, basic physical needs must be met before people can move beyond their present circumstances to act on decisions that will improve their futures.

Right in the middle of North Richmond is a great benevolence ministry called Helping Hands. They provide food and clothing to those in need on a short term basis. We are partnering with Helping Hands by providing volunteers, donating money, food and clothing.  In the future we will be collaborating with Helping Hands to teach community life skill classes on things like cooking, financial literacy, budgeting, nutrition, etc.  We need volunteers to help stock the food pantry, sort clothes, and work with client assessment. To volunteer in this area please contact Melanie Murphy.

Other programs to assist families in need are offered by Lamar Consolidated Independent School District; such as Common Threads and the ASAP Program.  Common Threads offers assistance to eligible families with school-aged children by providing gently-used clothing, sock, undergarments and school supplies.  Volunteers are needed to assist with sorting and organizing. Contact 832.223.0342 or Becky Watts. Activities Supporting Adolescent Parents (ASAP) helps educate young parents on pregnancy, birth and childcare and offers incentives for them to stay in school. Donations such as strollers, bedding, books, toys, car seats are needed. Contact 832.223.0354 for more information or contact Becky Watts.
