130 Days Old!
As the end of this year the Friends of North Richmond initiative will be 130 days old. Here is a by the numbers look back on what has taken place so far.
4 construction projects completed
26 families have been adopted for Christmas
130 days have been invested into this community
455 different volunteers have served in North Richmond
1483 hours have been volunteered
7000+ items of food and toiletries have been donated
More important than these numbers are what they represent of the live and families that have been touched as a result! We can’t wait to see what happens when we officially launch Friends of North Richmond on January 24, 2010!
Christmas Benevolence
Thank you to all the Home Teams and individuals who gave generously this Christmas season in the area of benevolence benefiting so many in North RIchmond. Twenty-six families were adopted and many more River Pointers called wanting to help. Here are some examples of other generosity that took place after all the families were adopted:
Tina Comstive’s home school group bought and filled stockings for Helping Hands.
Teresa Millican’s Girl Scout troop did the same, filled stockings and delivered them to Helping Hands for the kids Christmas party.
Women’s Bible Study filled 50 stockings for the men and women at Helping Hands.
And many more donations were made.
Thank you to all who participated and gave of themselves to help others this Christmas season!
Huge donation on behalf of F. of N.Richmond
Thanks to the children of Mission Glen Elementary who donated 2,793 cans to Helping Hands and to the River Pointe volunteers who helped move them all over today!
Help Needed for Service Project
Help needed with a small project at 9:00am on December 14th. We need about 5 volunteers and a pickup truck to move 1000 cans of donated food from Mission Glen Elementary School to Helping Hands. If you can help, please contact Richard Logan.
Career Day – Huge Success!
Thanks to all who served, and were a part of making the Career Day for Pink and Juan Seguin Elementary Schools here at River Pointe a huge success! Right before Thanksgiving about 300 faculty and students came to River Pointe for a day of dreaming, goal setting and life-building. Many of the teachers commented on how the impact of this event goes so far beyond what can be seen on the surface. They mentioned that most of these 4th and 5th graders never see anything beyond their neighborhood, so just the impact of leaving and coming here was huge in the context of exploring possibilities outside of their current situation. We loved having the students here and it was fun to partner with the schools in this way. Here are some pictures from the day:
